Campbell/Ciampa/Clemens/Freund/Frydenberg/Hooper/Ruffolo/West's TECHNOLOGY FOR SUCCESS: COMPUTER CONCEPTS, 2nd Edition, teaches students to be digital citizens by engaging them in the history, use and concepts of technology. Modules begin with a scenario introducing how one person may use the concepts covered in the module. The modules’ content are mapped to high-level learning objectives such as databases, networking, hardware, software, the web and digital communication. Each objective is broken into digestible tasks and topics focused on how the student will interact or utilize the technology. Topics covered that go beyond the nuts and bolts of technology include the digital divide, how technology is used in the professional world, applying information literacy skills to web searches, computer safety and health and the legal and ethical responsibilities of being a digital citizen.

Jennifer Campbell

Jennifer T. Campbell has written and co-authored several other leading technology texts, including TECHNOLOGY FOR SUCCESS; DISCOVERING COMPUTERS: DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY, DATA, AND DEVICES; DISCOVERING THE INTERNET; WEB DESIGN: INTRODUCTORY; MICROSOFT EXPRESSION WEB INTRODUCTORY CONCEPTS AND TECHNIQUES; COMPUTER LITERACY BASICS: MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007 COMPANION; and MICROSOFT OFFICE QUICK REFERENCE POCKET GUIDE. For over 25 years, she has served integral roles in computer educational publishing as an editor, author and marketing manager. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from The College of William and Mary.

Mark Ciampa

Dr. Mark Ciampa is a professor of information systems in the Gordon Ford College of Business at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Prior to this current role, he served as an associate professor and the director of academic computing at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tennessee, for 20 years. Dr. Ciampa has worked in the IT industry as a computer consultant for businesses, government agencies and educational institutions. He has published more than 20 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has written more than 25 technology textbooks, including CompTIA CySA+ Guide to Cybersecurity Analyst, Security+ Guide to Network Security Fundamentals, Security Awareness: Applying Practical Security in Your World, CWNA Guide to Wireless LANS, and Guide to Wireless Communications. Dr. Ciampa holds a Ph.D. in technology management with a specialization in digital communication systems from Indiana State University and has certifications in security and healthcare.

Barbara Clemens

Barbara Clemens has been a writer, editor, software product manager and instructor for more than 30 years. She has worked with Addison-Wesley Publishing, Course Technology and Cengage Learning. Ms. Clemens has edited and written numerous leading Microsoft® Office and Microsoft® Windows textbooks and has created instructional videos and online courses for MS Office.

Steven M. Freund

Steven M. Freund serves as a lead instructor of various Microsoft® Office, computer concepts, programming and internet technology courses throughout Central Florida. An integral author for the successful Shelly Cashman Series® since 2001, he has presented at the annual customer conference, the Shelly Cashman Series Institute and other customer events. Freund has co-authored multiple editions of DISCOVERING COMPUTERS, MOZILLA FIREFOX, WINDOWS® INTERNET EXPLORER, WINDOWS® OFFICE and DREAMWEAVER books. In addition, he has written numerous successful instructor supplements. He attended the University of Central Florida.

Ralph Hooper

Ralph Hooper has more than 30 years of teaching experience in mathematics and computer science at the university level. His professional interests include data science, machine learning, and computational thinking.

Lisa Ruffolo

Lisa Ruffolo has served as a technical writer and editor for more than 30 years. She is pursuing an emphasis in operating systems and digital literacy. She has edited top-selling books in the fields of introduction to computing, Microsoft Office, PC repair and computer programming.

Jill West

Jill West authors Cengage courses for CompTIA Cloud+, CompTIA Network+, Data Communications, Technology for Success and the popular Shelly Cashman Series. She has taught kindergarten through college and currently teaches computer technology courses at Georgia Northwestern Technical College. Jill specializes in designing innovative, critical-thinking activities and building courses that teach to popular IT certifications. She regularly presents at conferences and webinars on preparing for CompTIA certifications, teaching cloud computing and computer networking and mentoring lifelong student learners in IT. She’s a member of the 2019 inaugural cohort of Faculty Ambassadors for AWS Educate and is currently an AWS Academy Accredited Educator. Jill and her husband, Mike, live in northwest Georgia with two children at home and two off to college.
