Getting started with SAM


What is SAM?

SAM is an interactive online learning environment designed to help you master Microsoft Office and computer software concepts. You’ll observe, practise, then apply your new skills while working in a live environment.

Your SAM has been customised by your instructor to guide you through your course and help you focus on what’s important.

It includes ready-made content aligned to your textbook, such as customised assignments, and other helpful online study tools such as real-world simulations, interactive assessments, live projects with instant feedback and much more.

SAM can be accessed direct from your institution’s learning management system (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, etc.), or you can buy it as a standalone resource.

How to unlock SAM (standalone)

  1. You will need an 18-digit SAM key code
    • If you buy a print textbook packaged with SAM, the printed access card inside the book will include your code
    • Buy standalone SAM access from Cengage.com (get 10% OFF at the checkout by using the discount code provided by your instructor. Don’t have a discount code? Ask your instructor for one)
    • Get free temporary access by clicking ‘Enter later’. Please note, if you select temporary access you will only get SAM free of charge for 14 days
  2. Got your 18-digit SAM key code? Now go to Sam.cengage.com
  3. If you already have a Cengage account, enter your username and password. Or simply create a Cengage account
  4. To get back into your SAM course go to Sam.cengage.com and log in
  5. Click ‘Sections’ at the top of the page. Find the section for your course, then click ‘Join’. You’ll now be able to view your assignments


How to unlock SAM in your LMS

  1. Head to your campus Learning Management System (LMS) homepage and log in
  2. Click on any link to Cengage SAM content* to continue the registration process
  3. If you already have a Cengage account, enter your username and password. Or simply create a Cengage account
  4. Choose buy now or get temporary access. Please note, if you select temporary access you will be able to use SAM free of charge for 14 days
  5. Get 10% OFF at the checkout by using the discount code provided by your instructor. Don’t have a discount code? Ask your instructor for one
