  • New coverage of the impact of COVID-19 includes the latest information on coronaviruses and vaccines (Chapter 10) and the impact of wearing masks (Chapter 7), as well as other pandemic-related topics, such as the effects of isolation, healthcare disparities, and the use of video conferencing.
  • An expanded focus on diversity and inclusion throughout the book includes up-to-date coverage of healthcare disparities, cardiovascular disease, sexuality and mental health.
  • An updated Chapter 8 on Sexual Health now includes coverage of Pansexuality and Asexuality, an expanded discussion of bisexuality, online resources for LGBTQ+ students, and updated terms and language for the discussion regarding gender, gender identity and expression. In addition, an expanded discussion on Mental Health in the LGBTQ+ community appears in Chapter 2.
  • Chapter 5 (now titled “Body Composition and Weight Management”) emphasizes body composition and healthy body weight rather than BMI. Chapter 6 on Physical Activity and Fitness now covers FITT-VP, exercise addiction and skill-related fitness.
  • Occupational and financial health-related topics, often overlooked in personal wellness textbooks, include practical tips on developing and maintaining a healthy, lifelong relationship with money and also include discussions of investing, credit scores and designing budgets.
  • "Positive Moves" features show students how to avoid illness and unhealthy behaviors by embracing positive change – the cornerstone of this text – to continually improve behaviors and make better choices for life.
  • Using a student-friendly style, the authors emphasize behavior change using a practical, action-oriented approach.
  • A wealth of insightful tips and strategies to help students make positive life changes, includes such hallmark features as "Your Strategies for Change," "Your Strategies for Prevention," "Health on a Budget" and "Consumer Alert."
  • Personal Assessments help students make the important personal choice of healthy living; "Snapshot: On Campus Now" behavioral assessments help them evaluate others, while chapter-based "Your Life, Your Future!" checklists encourage them to track their own issues and make positive and lasting behavior changes.
