Peter Schofer

Peter Schofer is a professor emeritus of French at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition to authoring AUTOUR DE LA LITTÉRATURE, he has published numerous articles on film, rhetoric and poetic systems.

Donald B. Rice

Donald B. Rice was professor emeritus of French, Hamline University. His research interests included literary theory and 20th century French novels. He is co-author of ALLONS-Y!, JE VEUX BIEN! and AUTOUR DE LA LITTÉRATURE. Professor Rice received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin.

Recordings in the robust audio program include a rich assortment of readings of literary excerpts and poems.
The texts are divided into three sections reflecting basic levels of difficulty. The large number and exceptional variety of texts combined with hands-on activities give instructors the flexibility to use the texts in classes with different emphases and ability levels.
The expansive, balanced selection of texts represent a diverse set of authors from different French-speaking countries and genres.
AUTOUR DE LA LITTÉRATURE enables students to integrate grammar and vocabulary in new contexts. The book introduces readers to various forms of literature with an ultimate goal of integrating literature into the rest of language learning. Literary texts can -- and should -- increase students' proficiency in all four skills.
Each text is presented in a tripartite format. "Pré-lecture" pre-reading exercises place students in the role of an author. "Lecture" -- the text itself -- is followed by questions that set up class work on the text. "Post-lecture" writing activities enable students to reflect on and write about or around what they have read.
