Christina M. Rinaldi

Christina Rinaldi is an associate professor at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, and a registered psychologist in both Alberta and Québec. She researches and works with children, adolescents, and families. She earned her Ph.D. in school psychology at McGill University. She has published research articles in journals such as Child Development, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties, Infant and Child Development Merrill-Palmer Quarterly, Social Development, and Youth and Adolescence. Broadly defined, her research interests and research activities centre on children’s primary relationships (i.e. family and peer) and their links to the development and maintenance of social competence in early and middle childhood as well as adolescence. She is currently investigating (1) how parent, child, and bidirectional mutuality influence children’s emotional regulation strategies and social competence with peers; (2) the influence of context on (a) parent-child mutuality, and (b) child-peer interactions; and (3) the association between emotion regulation strategies and social competence with peers through funding from the Social Sciences and Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and the Alberta Centre for Child, Family and Community Research. Rinaldi is also the co-editor of the Exceptionality Education Canada journal along with fellow-colleague and Canada Research Chair in Special Education, Judy Lupart. Finally, Rinaldi takes most pleasure in spending time with her family and friends. She especially enjoys playing and sharing quality time with her children.
