Partnerships: Families and Communities in Early Childhood 7th Edition by Lynn Wilson

Overview

Partnerships: Families and Communities in Early Childhood, 7th Canadian Edition, is designed to encourage the development of authentic, meaningful and respectful relationships with families. With a strong emphasis on working in early learning centers and school environments, this resource provides strategies for building positive relationships between parents and teachers.

This new edition explores this plan and the role of the provinces and territories in its implementation, as well as its impact on the field of early learning and care. In consultation with Indigenous knowledge keepers, this title pays careful attention to Indigenous perspectives on families and early learning that are reflective of the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). Important organizations are highlighted, and extensive additional resources support greater exploration of many of the issues raised in the text

Lynn Wilson

Lynn Wilson has taught in a variety of teaching environments since her graduation from teachers’ college in 1966. She spent a number of years in the public school system in kindergarten and primary classrooms, helped to establish a parent co-operative, and taught in a full-day kindergarten program in an early learning environment. Lynn supervised a George Brown College lab school and, in 1990, became a member of the faculty. She travelled to many child-care centres in Western Canada as the project director of a Child Care Initiatives Fund project of Health and Welfare Canada on extended-hour child care. In cooperation with Ryerson Polytechnic University’s School of Early Childhood Education, she delivered training workshops with colleagues to front-line teachers in Bosnia during the summers of 1998 and 2000. In 2006, Lynn won a National Teaching Excellence Award from the Association of Canadian Community Colleges. She also participated with graduate ECE students in 2008 on a project in Shanghai, Beijing, and Suzhou, China. Lynn was the technical advisor on a Partnership Project in Early Childhood Education in Jamaica with the Association of Canadian Community Colleges, funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (C.I.D.A.) from 2002 to 2011. Currently retired from her faculty position, Lynn has used this time to write two books that reflect her passion for young children; Outdoor Playscapes—Breaking New Ground and A Handbook For Grandparents: Over 700 Creative Things to Do and Make with Your Grandchild.
