Principles of Radiographic Imaging: An Art and A Science 6th Edition by Richard R. Carlton/Arlene M. Adler/Vesna Balac

Overview

Build clarity and confidence with PRINCIPLES OF RADIOGRAPHIC IMAGING: AN ART AND A SCIENCE, 6th Edition! Preparing students for radiographer, radiologist assistant, ultrasound technologist and other imaging jobs, this book starts with basic math and physics then moves gradually through imaging essentials, from creating the beam to advanced modalities. Image quality factors get ample focus, including IR exposure, contrast, spatial resolution and distortion, along with updates on digital radiography systems, new imaging technologies and modern instrumentation. And because accreditation matters in the job market, a friendly tone and visual resources tie lessons together and build confidence to help students master exams. Of course, lab activities, a test bank, PowerPoint slides and the MindTap platform enable you to streamline your course while helping students learn on their terms.

Richard R. Carlton

Richard Carlton is an Associate Professor and former Director of Radiologic and Imaging Sciences at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Previously, he taught Radiography at Arkansas State University, City College of San Francisco and Lima Technical College, and worked as a Clinical Coordinator at Wilbur Wright Community College. A Charter Fellow and past president of A.E.I.R.S., Mr. Carlton gives presentations around the world and founded Lambda Nu, the national honor society for radiologic and imaging sciences. He has written 36 books, started two professional journals and served as a J.R.C.E.R.T. site visitor for forty years. Mr. Carlton earned an M.S. from National Louis University, a B.S. from The Chicago Medical School and an A.A.S. from Illinois Central College. He is A.R.R.T. certified in C.V. and radiography and continues to train residents at West Michigan Regional Laboratory in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Arlene M. Adler

Arlene Adler served four decades as a Professor in the Radiologic Sciences Programs at Indiana University Northwest. Now Professor Emerita, Ms. Adler authored several articles and textbooks on the radiologic sciences during her career. A member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists and Fellow of the Association of Educators in Radiologic Sciences (A.E.I.R.S.), she earned her B.S. in Radiologic Sciences from the University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School and an M.S. in Education from the University of Illinois.

Vesna Balac

Vesna Balac is Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of the Radiologic Sciences Programs at Indiana University Northwest. Currently a doctoral candidate in Instructional Systems Technology at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, she is a member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, the Association of Educators in Radiologic Sciences (A.E.I.R.S.) and Indiana Society of Radiologic Technologists. Ms. Balac earned her B.S. in Radiologic Sciences from Indiana University Northwest and an M.S. in Adult Education from Indiana University, Bloomington.
  • Digital Radiography: An all-new unit on digital radiography systems guides readers through the latest technology and approaches, eliminating the need for separate resources on the subject.
  • Film Imaging: Limited yet essential content on film and screen imaging addresses these topics for those working in small clinical settings or overseas services, where this older technology may still be in use.
  • Molecular Imaging: New content on this leading-edge practice reveals how radiography professionals use nuclear medicine to see how the body functions at the cellular level.
  • NEW MindTap: Interactive learning resources from MindTap coordinate with book chapters and give readers ways to learn on the go, from apps and an eBook that can read aloud to helpful flashcards and self-quizzing tools.
  • Logical Approach: Written with busy students in mind, the text uses friendly tone and covers the basics before moving on to more challenging topics.
  • Unmatched Expertise: Known for their work in radiologic sciences, the authors share fascinating experiences from decades of teaching, leadership and clinical work in radiography, adding a professional perspective to every concept.
  • Accreditation Prep: The 6th edition fully addresses radiographic physics and instrumentation for accreditation programs, including radiography, radiologist assistant, ultrasound, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, bone densitometry, cardiac interventional and others.
