Melanie Peacock

Dr. Melanie Peacock has over 30 years’ experience as a Human Resources Management professional and is an Associate Professor at Mount Royal University and past president of the Faculty Association. Dr. Peacock was the first woman of colour and the first woman in over 28 years to hold this position. As well, Dr. Peacock is the incoming president of Western University’s Alumni Board. Dr. Peacock has been extensively involved in professional HR initiatives as a senior manager, independent consultant, and educator. She obtained her Bachelor of Commerce (with distinction) from the University of Alberta, her MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business (Western University), and her PhD through the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary. Due to her extensive knowledge and competencies, Dr. Peacock is a sought-after media contributor and commentator at the municipal, provincial, and national levels. In addition to this text, Dr. Peacock has authored books regarding training and development and change management. Dr. Peacock was presented with HRD’s 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award in the HR Industry at the Canadian HR Awards. As well, in 2021 and 2020 she was named to HRD magazine’s list of the top 100 HR global professionals and was acknowledged in HRD magazine’s 2017 Hot List as one of the top 30 most influential HR practitioners in Canada. Eileen B. Stewart

Eileen Stewart, with over 40 years of experience in the HR field, taught both full-time and part-time for many years at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). During her time at BCIT, she was also the program head for the Human Resource Management Programs. She is a senior human resources professional with extensive experience in all areas of human resources management (HRM) in both the public and the private sectors. As the HR executive, she has led human resources units in several of British Columbia’s large public sector organizations. After receiving a BA in economics and commerce from Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, she joined Teck Mining as its first HR manager. She then moved to BCIT, where she specialized in labour relations. She obtained her senior leadership experiences at BCIT; the University of British Columbia; and the City of Vancouver, as general manager of human resources. While working full-time, Ms. Stewart completed her MBA at Simon Fraser University. Ms. Stewart is active in the HR community through her continued involvement with the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources of British Columbia and Yukon (CPHR BC & Yukon). She was recognized by CPHR BC & Yukon in 2012 with the Award of Excellence for the HR Professional of the Year and became an Honorary Life Member in 2015. She has also served as president of the CPHR BC & Yukon’s predecessor, the Human Resources Management Association. In addition to her professional involvement, she is heavily involved in board governance, where she recently completed a 2-year appointment as Chair, Board of Directors, Douglas College. Prior to that, she served as vice-chair, Board of Directors, B.C. Women’s Health Foundation; chair of the Governance and Human Resources Committee, Community Living BC; and chair of the Board of Directors, YWCA of Metro Vancouver. She continues to provide support to boards in an advisory capacity.

Monica Belcourt

Monica Belcourt is the founding director of the School of Human Resources Management at York University. Additionally, she is a Professor Emeritus and founding director of the Graduate Program in HRM at the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, York University. She has an extensive and varied background in HRM. After receiving a BA in psychology from the University of Manitoba, she joined the Public Service Commission as a recruitment and selection specialist. During her tenure with the federal government, she worked in training, HRM research, job analysis, and HR planning. Dr. Belcourt’s research is grounded in the experience she gained as director of personnel for the 63,000 employees at CP Rail, as director of employee development at the National Film Board, and as a functional HR specialist for the federal government. She has taught HRM at Concordia University, Université du Québec à Montréal, McGill University, and York University, where she founded and managed the largest undergraduate program in HRM in Canada. She created Canada’s first degrees in HRM: BHRM, BHRM (honours), and a Master’s in HRM. Active in many professional associations and not-for-profit organizations, Dr. Belcourt is a past president of the HRPA of Ontario and was a board member of CIBC Insurance and the Toronto French School. In 2010, the HRPA recognized Monica Belcourt’s outstanding contribution to the HR profession by awarding her the Fellow Certified HR Leader designation (FCHRL).
